[Felvtalk] 4 month old kitten with Feline Leukemia

Margo, thanks for the information. Our adult cat was vaccinated for FeLV before we brought the kitten into the house, thankfully. I'm going to leave her downstairs awhile longer, until the kitten's illness resolves - either he gets better... or doesn't make it. She's not down there all alone, as my daughter's bedroom is down there and my son plays video games there as well. I know she isn't happy being away from the rest of the family, but I feel she's safer down there for now. Eventually, if the kitten recovers, I'll have to let her back up, but I'd like to see Oreo symptom free first. I'm hopefully that he can either shed the virus or go into some kind of remission. Right now, he seems to be doing better. He is eating fairly well, and is finally becoming more playful. He's been on Metacam for 5 days straight (before that he was on it for four days, then two days off and then another four days with two days off), so I'm worried about his kidneys, but it's a low dose, and it helps him feel so much better and makes him want to eat. The vet felt the cons were outweighed by the pro's at this point.

It would be good to know just how contagious the virus is. There seems to be so many varying opinions on that question.

I am beginning to wonder if FELV is as contagious and the vets claim. My cats are all ferals, dump cats and I have had 2 who were declared FELV positive. One did pass in 2 years of something else. Annie has been with me over 4 years now and at first, I vacinnated all the others . 2 years ago, I stopped that and everyone is healthy, bright eyed and happy. I am convinced that Annie really is not positive, just a tremendeous amount of stress that happened just before I got her. She has never shown any signs or symptoms of any disease. The rest of the cats are healthy.
