Sorry I haven't been following this thread but I did read about a PCR test one time. It's a relatively new one, I think, but I can't remember what I read. I found it mentioned in an article by some vet from a university in Texas. Gosh, can't even remember the name of the university right now. But I think if you google it you will find more info on this test or you might can find the article or paper this guy wrote.
There is a bone marrow biopsy they can do to see if the virus is in the bone marrow but dormant. I think that's the only way you can find out if the virus is dormant because it won't show up on the ELISA or the IFA when it's dormant. I don't think that's what the PCR test is though. I'm thinking it was something else.
