      Hi Sidney,
Hi Sidney, I know you said you are not really familiar with kitties
and there needs so this is an FYI to help, please don't give any broth
that you have bought in the store to a cat, it almost certainly contains
onion as part of the flavoring and onion is very deadly to cats, it
causes anemia. Any processed food product that contains things like
natural flavor or spices, is sure to have onion in it one of those
things and is very dangerous for any cat. If he'll eat broth, buy
chicken, even if you just get scraps from the meat section or the
butcher, boil it and get broth that way. FeLV cats most definitely
don't need to eat anything that cause anemia. This site has a list of
other foods that are harmful or just not so good for cats:

and about the garlic mentioned in this one, some people think it is OK,
but I figure if there is a chance it can be harmful, why take the
chance, that is my personal opinion only.

A safe baby food to give is, Gerber 2nd stage meats they don't contain
onion, and Beechnut 1st stage meats, the ingredients are right on the
bottles, check to make sure but I'm pretty sure these are what I use and
they do not contain onion powder as seasoning. Fred my CRF kitty wth
kidney issues gets them to take his medicines.

Other things to never give cats except in very rare cases under the
supervision of a vet is aspirins, even baby aspirin or anything
containing salicylate is dangerous for cats.

Certain plants are deadly for cat:

This should help you with some of the dont's related to caring for a
cat, they are marvelous, mysterious creatures and you'll enjoy the
relationship with General like no other. I never knew about these
things back when I was caring for my first dog and cat after leaving
home on my own, no computers at that time. I found out thankfully
before I did any harm to my pets. Thank you for taking General in and
caring for him. Your in for a fun, magical adventure!!
